Logging Machinery in Action

Good Morning Ted and Jody:

Yesterday morning on my way in to Longview I noticed logging activity going on at one of the sites where I shoot cloud configurations over wetlands attached to Silver Lake in the direction of Mt. St. Helens from WA 504 (about the five-mile marker).  Here is the shot yesterday morning.  You will recognize some of the clumps of trees or the stick in the lower left as being in a number of those photos I have sent before.20160901_110840 ns email.jpg

Here is a shot from 2014 of what the woodlot looked like prior to the logging activity.20140228 96x36 woods email.jpg

What it looks like now with the machinery stripping and stacking the logs is a lot different.  While it was neat to see the machine move and strip the trees of branches20160901_111000 ns email.jpg

It was also devastating to see the trees gone.20160901_110852 ns email.jpg

Warmest regards, Ed

PS:  I drove by this morning on the way in for a blood draw and the loggers were loading a truck and had made some brush piles.20160902_092630 email.jpg

I don’t know much about logging, but I always worry about the denuded forests. I suppose we need the jobs, and the paper products too. But still…
    Best wishes, Pete.
