Two Observations

Dear Ted and Jody:

Our local media, radio and television, is largely out of Portland Oregon. That means we miss local news, and by local, I mean stuff that happens in Washington State. Last evening, Rachel Maddow gave me some news out of Washington States. It seems that over the weekend the Republicans held their state convention over in Spokane. Among the disarray that characterized the event, such as turning their back on our former congresswoman who is running for a statewide executive office, the convention called for the repeal of the 17th Amendment, and a plank against abolishing the Electoral College for we are becoming too democratic. Indeed, when the words democratic or democracy occur the Convention would have them be replaced by the words republic and republican. Yes, you heard me correctly, the Washington Sate Republican Party has voted to not only stop the US from supporting the advancement of democracy around the world, it wants to reverse the democratic advances made in the USA. I wish to thank Rachel for alerting me to what is happening in my back yard (OK several hundred miles west of my back yard). After that news, Nancy turned to me and said, “Trump has really messed up the Republican Party.”

On the TV screen this morning photos of Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels were shown between shots of Donald Trump. I got to thinking, The pictures of the two women have not changed. Haven’t they gotten older? So I looked them up. Karen is 53 and Stormy is 45, so we know Trump is well in to senior-hood, and what we have is a titillating tale of the former sex life of a current senior citizen with two middle aged women. Of course, all of them were much younger when the titillation was going on. What really stuck me was how much this nonsense dominates the news when there are real problems going on in the world today: Gaza, Ukraine, abortion bans, just to name a few.

Long Ears has been around the past few days. She seems to have developed a liking to the pots in which I garden.

Looking at the rabbit sitting happily in the pot, I am reminded of why animals can be happy with what they have available to them in Nature. They know nothing of politics.

    Best wishes, Pete.
