Dear Jody:
Yesterday we had to go into Longview. Nancy had an appointment. As we drove south we noticed the air quality get worse. When In Longview we could smell the burnt wood from the fires in the Eastern parts of Washington and Oregon. Driving back home, the air quality improved as we got farther away from the Columbia River. It would appear winds from the East blowing through the Columbia Gorge brought the smoke downriver.
While there were no clouds in the sky this morning and the temperature was down to 41 degrees F, I figured there would still be a haze in the East from the fires so went out to see what dawn and sunrise would look like:

While Nancy was at her appointment I went to Lowe’s and got the pea gravel and cedar chips for the rest of the necessary “stuff” to plant the Cosmic Crisp and pollinator when they arrive. Since I was there I picked up a couple of bags of paving base for when the driveway needs patching this fall after the rains start. Figured to get a leg up on paving base so I can hit the potholes before they get too big.
Instead of picking Chesterberries last evening, I watched the Rachel Maddow interview of Michael Cohen regrading his book Disloyal https://www.amazon.com/Disloyal-Memoir-Personal-Attorney-President/dp/1510764690 She asked him about Trump’s view on abortion (which we knew was not anti-abortion until he needed a way to get the Evangelical vote) and if he had acted as an agent for paying women Trump got pregnant for an abortion. He said something to the effect “I wasn’t involved in anything like that.” Given Trump’s comments about how his Vietnam was trying not to get an STD when he was sleeping around. Trump, comparing sex to Vietnam, said in 1998 he should receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. https://money.cnn.com/2016/10/14/media/trump-stern-vietnam-stds/index.html
What would be the impact if the several dozen women whose abortions he paid for during that period came forward? (Assuming he did pay for them. Cohen’s answer to Rachel’s question does not rule this out.)
Stay safe and healthy. If you need anything, tell me. Love, Ed
Cosmic Crisp sounds so cool, like an alien invasion with super blaster guns that will wipe us all out! Hmm maybe not so cool after all. 😀 😀

We bought some last fall and Nancy loved them. They keep a long time (supposedly up to a year in refrigeration). I only wish I had known one could buy trees last year. But still this is early for a new variety. So we get to add two varieties to the Honey Crip we already have in the back cedar chips that passes as a place for our pots and raised beds,
Warmest regards, Ed.
